::hidden gems::the nypl picture collection::

the picture collection at the mid-manhattan library is one of my favorite places to visit in new york. it's totally a throwback to the time before libraries went digital and i once sat across from a man there who was looking at a folder of images entitled "nudes" that i'm pretty sure were not for any creative research. however, i love carrying the green folder they provide you with knowing it is someones job to rip out images from magazines and old books and categorize them for poor artists and art students. plus, i returned my images a day late and my fine was 25 cents. a steal if you ask me.

the above images were ones i used to help me create a design for a silk-screen project i did at FIT. i love the inlays of old guns and think that they not only took incredible amounts of time and skill to create but are themselves amazing designs. although i don't really believe that the average person should own a gun, i wouldn't mind owning a few antique ones someday, unloaded of course.
